The 2008 OTOBA Annual Awards Banquet was held at Portland Meadows Turf Club on Saturday, March 8th. At this banquet we celebrate our champion horses of 2007 as well as announce our Oregon Breeder of the Year. It is an exciting night along with door prizes and our live auction, which always receives an overwhelming response!

Celebrating Ursula Gibbons
Ursula Gibbons has been the Executive Director of the OTOBA for the past twenty-two years. She has been an instrumental part of this organization and we will all miss her upon her retirement this year. We celebrated Ursula's 22 years with our organization at our awards banquet. Speakers included previous OTOBA Presidents and current board members: Dr. Jack Root, Paul Hagemann, and Gary Martin. All spoke of Ursula's dedication over the years to both the horsemen/women and the organization. With a standing ovation we all celebrated and honored Ursula!

Oregon's 2007 Breeder of the Year
The Oregon breeder of the year is voted by the Oregon TOBA Board of Directors. This breeder is chosen for their outstanding accomplishments and commitment to Oregon’s racing industry. The TOBA Award winner will represent Oregon at the Thoroughbred Owners and Breeder Awards Banquet this September in Lexington, Kentucky. Our organization contributes $500 towards travel expenses for the trip, and the winner of this award will receive their bronze statue at the awards banquet in Lexington, KY.
With this in mind, the breeder of the year is not necessarily Oregon’s LEADING breeder of the year by earnings. For Oregon’s leading breeder of the year in 2007 by earnings, we would like to recognize Jack & Cookie Root with Oakhurst Thoroughbreds. Horses they bred earned over $255,000 at the track in 2007!
We are pleased to announce Ry & Jo Harwood from Dallas, OR as Oregon’s 2007 Breeder of the Year!
